The are many good-quality coming-of-age novels which are enjoyed by teenagers all over the world. Louisa May Alcott is one of the most popular authors of coming-of-age stories in the United States, whose books are still read by thousands of people every year. Louisa May Alcott’s novel title “Little Women” lets readers see the life of sisters and their experiences as they grow up and try to find their place in the world.

“Little Women” is set during and after the American Civil war and allows the reader to discover how people lived in that era. The novel tells the story of four sisters named Beth, Meg, Jo, and Amy March, who live in a town in New England. Jo March is the most restless of the sisters, and she has a boyish character. Meg is the oldest sister, and she is romantic and likes beautiful and expensive items. Beth is a shy and lovely person, but, unfortunately, she tragically dies in the novel. Finally, Amy is the youngest sister, and she acts like a spoiled child. The book shows how the four sisters live through different moments, especially after their father starts serving in the army during the American Civil War. Theodore Lawrence, a rich grandson of the sister’s neighbor, becomes the girls’ good friend. Eventually, the girls become wives to different men they meet. Meg marries John Brooke, Theodore’s tutor, while Amy marries Theodore himself. Jo marries Professor Bhaer after meeting him in a boarding house.

The book demonstrates the life of young women in the 19th century United States. I personally liked how the author shows different historical aspects of the society of the period. Additionally, I liked reading about how the sisters meet challenges and find ways to overcome them and gain strength no matter what. I will recommend the book to all of my friends because I am sure that it will give them much joy.
