Introduction

Many people, and in particular, US citizens, buy private health insurance. Such coverage requires immense monthly expenditures, and therefore, employed individuals are the ones that majorly afford it (Batbold & Pu, 2021). Although private health insurance has some disadvantages, there are several strong points in its favor that make it an essential requirement for all citizens.

The Advantages of Having Private Health Insurance

Patients Choosing their Doctor

Having private health insurance is beneficial to patients because they choose their doctor. Furthermore, sick people have the freedom to select their preferred medical facility. Therefore, experts highly advise the patients who need the same physician to buy private health insurance.

Shorter Waiting Time

Private medical centers are not as busy as public healthcare facilities. As a result, the sick people in private health insurance systems mostly wait for their turn for shorter periods (Batbold & Pu, 2021). This advantage is highly beneficial to patients who might be having life-threatening conditions.

Accessing Improved Facilities

Private medical centers have certain comfort amenities and are not as overcrowded as public hospitals. Regrettably, since the government funds the public medical centers, they do not access adequate money (Batbold & Pu, 2021). For this reason, the sufficiently funded private medical facilities provide improved services to their patients.

The Disadvantages of Having Private Health Insurance

Private Health Insurance is Expensive

Individuals pay a lot of money to obtain private health insurance covers. According to Rogers, et al. (2019), many Americans started affording private health insurance after the government implemented the Affordable Care Act’s Diabetes pre-existing condition mandate. Therefore, many citizens cannot afford to pay several dollars that private health insurers ask for as monthly premiums.

Private Insurance Covers a Few Health Services

Private health insurance firms provide clients with quotations to select plans, which might best suit their needs. Regrettably, these policies are expensive, which is why clients pick insurance covers that fit into their budget. Therefore, when policyholders make wrong choices, they might be left with enormous gaps, hence missing important treatment.

Conclusion

Private health insurance has both advantages and disadvantages for the clients. The benefits include the patients having the freedom to choose their doctor and waiting for shorter times. On the other hand, private health insurance is costly and covers a few health services. In summary, clients should choose their health insurance correctly to receive appropriate treatment continuously, even if it is expensive.
