Introduction

Various areas of business and life in commercial and non-profit organizations evolve over time. Health systems are changing, and nurses who take on an important and direct role in it are beginning to reshape their practices in response to new demands from society and emerging opportunities. Thus, their scope of responsibilities expands and the roles they perform become more and more comprehensive. This in many ways requires more training in the form of training and practice, as their area of professional responsibility for health and patient care is increasing.

Evolution of Nursing Practice

Various aspects were involved in the changing practice of nurses. All of them together had an influence on the available approaches to the practical treatment. Doctors of the past, with their meager therapeutic possibilities, were one-on-one with the patient in the health care setting. Today the patient care is different, as a new instrument being medical technology and equipment has appeared. The equipment allowed increased accuracy, efficiency, electronic storage of information, and many other domains. Technologies allow minimizing the human factor and, accordingly, errors.

Additionally, in the previous decades, the central role of the nurse was in caring about the health of the patient. Further, advanced health-specific education has emerged, which allowed nursing departments to take multiple responsibilities. Moreover, advanced nurse practitioners (ANP) have appeared based on their strong experience and educational background. Such specialists can perform a much wider range of duties due to the possession of expertise (King et al., 2017). Due to this, the role of the nurse in medicine is increasing. A modern nurse, taking on a huge responsibility and directly performing professional duties, bears personal responsibility for all the medical services provided.

Associate and Baccalaureate Education in Nursing

The effective development of the health care system largely depends on the state of the professional level and the quality of training, rational placement and use of medical personnel. The registered nursing practice (RN) includes both Baccalaureate (BSN) and Associate Education (ADN) in holders (Sabio, 2019). However, the difference lies in the competencies, as they differ based on the obtained nursing education. The duration of education differs, the tasks that are posed to it, and, accordingly, the theory and practice that the students receive during their studies on the program.

The ADN degree takes a minimum of three years, while BSN lasts for four years straight. The training for ADN is covering more of the practical, technical clinical skills in order for the graduate nurses to be able to take responsibility for the actions performed. This includes a full cycle of the patient health status assessment, improvement plan and its proper implementation (Djukic et al., 2019). Therefore, the main aim of the ADN is to provide the student with the abilities to provide quality health care to the client.

The BSN degree is focused on the wide variety of nursing practices such as the ability to provide the patient care, supervise the process, solve the problems, think critically, be able to make decisions, and much more. The BSN degree holding nurses must be physically and mentally trained to work with patients (Djukic et al., 2019). Their task is to provide a full range of nursing services, bearing full responsibility for their quality.

Practical Case

Considering the situation in which a patient with a disease is admitted to the clinic, which has already been studied by other, more professional doctors who have come to the conclusion that there is no solution for treating the patient, nurses with ADN and BSN education may have a different approach. A nurse with a BSN education is trained to think critically, and can consider innovative approaches to the situation, look with a degree of doubt at all past conclusions and try to draw their own. At the same time, a nurse with ADN education can focus on already existing negative answers and only reinforce them with existing knowledge and experience.

Evidence-based Practice for RN-BSN

In the modern health care system, nursing remains the most important component, having human resources with real potential in the health system. Such nurses must adapt to the new demands of the world, one of which is the evidence-based practice. Depending on the renewal and relevance of the knowledge and experience of nurses, the patient may or may not receive proper care. The RN-BSN practice is supportive for the evidence-based practice since the academic preparation within the study program is largely evidence, research, and practice based.

Modern Interdisciplinary Communication

Interdisciplinary communication is essential for the provision of quality patient care. Medical professionals have various competencies, which cover the different needs of the patient. In this regard, modern nurses must also be able to communicate correctly with a variety of people with different qualifications, with alternative departments, patients, and many other people. It is such an integrated approach that allows to provide a good level of safe and quality care for the patient’s health.

Conclusion

In conclusion, nurses play an integral role in the health care system. Nurses come from different levels of education and training. Additionally, medical teams are made up of a variety of staff, and the level of patient service depends on communication. But it is precisely such support from different departments and people of different qualifications that ensures the quality maintenance of the patient’s health. Therefore, patient care is a system in which many professionals play different roles.
